Foo Fighters Win Three Grammys

By Jeff MacRae

Foo Fighters have won three awards at the 2022 Grammy Awards. They won the awards while they are still grieving their late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in March while in Bogota, Colombia, where the band had been scheduled to play a music festival on March 25. The awards go to all Foo Fighters’ members, including Hawkins.

Understandably no one from the band appeared to accept the award at the Sunday ceremony in Las Vegas. Hawkins had been the band’s drummer for 25 years and was best friends with Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl.

The band won the Grammy for “Best Rock Performance” for their recording of “Making a Fire.” Other nominees included AC/DC – “Shot in the Dark”, Black Pumas – “Know You Better”, the late Chris Cornell -“Nothing Compares 2 U”, and Deftones -“Ohms.

Their  track “Waiting on a War” won “Best Rock Song” over music by fellow nominees Weezer – “All My Favorite Songs”, Kings of Leon -“The Bandit”, Mammoth WVH – “Distance”, and Paul McCartney – “Find My Way”.
